I have seen great projects and lessons going on in the iPad rooms. I had the pleasure of viewing what one teacher is doing with the app Aurasma. This is a site association app. This class had a project to discover information about a famous person in history that they had researched. The kids had plugged the information that they learned into the Trading Card app. Then the students recorded their report with Aurasma and used the printed “trading card” scan to trigger the video. During Open House parents can scan the trading card with their smart phone to start the video.
A 3rd grade teacher has been Skyping with people in cold weather climates. The kids really have enjoyed doing this. I can see classrooms using Skype to contact professionals of many fields and classrooms around the world. The applications are endless.
A 4th grade class is using QR codes to make an activity for the students to review Area. For this project a file was created in Word and saved as a PDF. This PDF was then uploaded to a Weebly to establish a URL. The URL was then plugged into a QR generator, which created the QR code. Then we had a 3D cube on the computer that we inserted our newly created QR codes to each side. Finally it was ready to print and put together. I am sure that there are other wonderful lessons that I have not had the pleasure of seeing yet, but I can’t wait to see all the wonderful ways technology is engaging the students in life long learning.
